Biralvand wins gold at Junior Weightlifting Champs

TEHRAN, Jun. 22 (MNA) – Iranian weightlifter Reza Biralvand became the winner with 369 kg at the 2017 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Junior World Championships in Japan.

On the seventh day of the tournament currently underway in Tokyo, Japan, Iranian weightlifter Reza Biralvand (105kg) competed with ten other weightlifters in Group A and managed to win two gold and one silver medals lifting a total of 369 kg. Beiralvand became the winner of the World Championship with 369 kg, while Georgian Dato Khetsuriani took the second place with 368 kg, and Samvel Gasparyan from Armenia won bronze medal with total 365 kg. 

Biralvand’s gold was the first gold medal won by the Iranian athletes at the 2017 Junior World Championships. Another Iranian weightlifter, Rahman Ourameh, earned two bronze medals in the 97-kilogram weight category on Wednesday. 

The 2017 IWF Junior World Championships began in Tokyo, Japan, on June 15 and will finish on June 23. The tournament has brought together a total of 265 male and female athletes from 50 countries.
